Victorice A. O'Brien 91 passed on Wednesday June 13 2023 at Welcome Nursing Home in Oberlin. He was born in Miami, Florida to the late Vincent and Emily (nee Alexander) O'Brien who were descendants of Jamaica, West Indies. While his father worked as a self employed tailor in New York, he was raised along with his older brother Mark and younger sister Ismae in Jamaica, WI by family. In his adulthood, Victorice "Vic" relocated to Detroit, MI, joined the Air Force, and served during the Korean war as a trained and skilled Air Traffic Control Specialist. When he returned to Detroit he was employed as an Air Traffic Controller. From thereafter, Vic was transferred from Detroit facility to the FAA Air Traffic Control Center in Oberlin, where he worked as an Air Traffic Controller/Supervisor until his retirement in 1988. Vic was a member of Rust United Methodist Church and served as the head usher, chairman of the trustee board, choir member, and various other boards and committees. He was a member of the VFW Post #626 of Oberlin . Vic was an avid golfer, had an interest in woodworking, loved listening to Jazz and Classical music. He was a history buff, and especially enjoyed traveling and attending various theatrical events with his wife and friends. Victorice was a gracious servant and a kind hearted Christian, a devoted father and husband, and was a highly respected gentleman. He was preceded in death by his parents, his former wife Doris, son Lorrence, brother Mark, and sisters Ismae and Enid. He is survived by his loving wife Denise, daughters, Rita and Erica, sons Barrington (Rosalyn), Damien and Jonathan, sister-in-law Naomi Glauberman and a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nephews, nieces, and friends. There will be a graveside service in Westwood Cemetery on Tuesday, June 20 2023 at 11am with Pastor Brian Kenyon officiating along with full military honors conducted by Post #1079 of Elyria and accompanied by Post #626 of Oberlin.
