Ruth Ann Edwards

Ruth Ann Edwards 81 of Oberlin passed away on May 20 2023 at Welcome Nursing Home.  Ruth Ann was born in Oberlin on February 22 1942 and was a graduate of Oberlin High.  She worked as a manger for RJ Gordon for many years.  Ruth Ann was the first African American female to work as a security guard for Oberlin College.  She also was a home day care teacher with the state of Ohio.  Ruth Ann was a long time member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church of Oberlin and she enjoyed bowling, playing bingo, reading , playing cards and gaming.  She is survived by her daughter Sanchen Gibbs, 3 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren and a sister Mary Jane Toney.  She was preceded in death by her parents John Chambers and Catherine Owens Rhinehardt and 2 brothers Ronald and Donald Rhinehardt.  There will be a visitation on Tuesday at 10am May 30 2023 at Mt. Zion Baptist church followed by services at 11am with Rev. Fred L. Bell officiating. Burial will be  in Westwood Cemetery.  Online condolences may be made to www.cowlingfuneralhomeoh.com
