God’s faithful servant, our beloved Mother, Grandmother, Sister-in-Christ and Friend, Mary Wynn-Mayle went home to be with the Lord on Friday, April 28, 2023, following a lengthy illness. She was 94 years young. Mary was born August 30, 1928 in Sherrill, Arkansas to Claudie and Cora (Hicks) Gordon. As a child, she enjoyed church worship, revivals, spending time with and caring for her siblings and family. She attended Altheimer public schools, and was baptized at New Hope Baptist Church, Altheimer, Arkansas at a young age. She met and married Wess Moore, Jr. following high school and they moved to Lorain, OH and then to Oberlin, OH where they settled down and were blessed with 4 children: Charlene, Rita, David and Shirley. Mary married Sidney Wynn until death parted them in 1998. They were blessed with two more children: Taylor and Alvin. She also received two bonus children: Sandra Alston and Brian Wynn. For the majority of her life, Mother Wynn-Mayle ministered for the Lord. She was a member of Mount Zion Baptist Church in Oberlin, OH for 45 years; and upon wedding Pastor, Charles B. Mayle in 1999, she took membership with his church - Christian & Missionary Alliance, Oberlin, OH. Mary served the church and Oberlin Community as a deaconess, she served on nursing, usher board, and food pantry ministries, and on the benevolence committee. She was a member of the American Legion Women’s auxiliary club in Oberlin for many years. She worked as a nurse’s aid at Carters Nursing Home and then as a private aid before beginning her work for 27 years, as head cook for dining services at Oberlin College. Her greatest service was answering the calls for prayer or physical help at any time day or night, for anyone. Mary enjoyed bowling and was a talented seamstress. She enjoyed and cherished her family – immediate and adopted, immensely. She most enjoyed cooking for them for family gatherings. Mary is preceded in death by her beloved husbands Sidney Wynn Jr. and Charles B. Mayle (2008), her siblings Margarette Newman, OT Gordon, Henrietta Jones, Alton Gordon, Claudie Gordon, Jr. Beatrice McCray, Lazelle Powell and John William Gordon. Her daughters Rita (Moore) Seavers and Charlene (Moore) Noble and her son Taylor Wynn, Sr.; and sons Marvin Mayle, James Mayle, and Charles B. Mayle Jr.; and daughter Harriet Mayle.
