Luther Gates Jr.

Luther Gates Jr. 89 passed away Oct. 16 2016 at his home after a long illness.  He was born March 3 1927 in Gay, Ga. He was a veteran of the US Navy having served in the South Pacific during WW II.  Luther worked for General Motors for 26 years & then started a lawn care business.  He was a member of Mt Zion Baptist Church of Oberlin and served as a Trustee for 20 years.  He enjoyed fishing, bowling & playing cards.  He is survived by his wife of 40 years Vivian Ann Gates Elyria, Children James (Lillie) Jackson, Ira Lizzie Weathers, Wanda Nevitt, Barbara Gail (Arthur) Meadows, Alvie Dupree, Luther D. (Elizabeth) Gates, Melba Gates, Sandra (Ben) Almond, Tommy Gates, Douglas Northcutt, Darrien (Catherine) Northcutt, Telva (Keith) Hogan, Katrina (Dedric) Jewell, 26 Grandchildren, 34 Great Grandchildren, 2 Great Great Grandchildren, Sister Lenolia Young, Brother Russel (Martha) Gates, Host of Nieces, Nephews & Friends.  Preceded in death by Father Luther Gates Sr., Mother Elizabeth Gates, Sons John Barry Thrash, William Pruitt, Eddie Bruce Gates, Brothers Rufus Gates & John Dunlap.  Visitation will be Thursday Oct. 20 2016 from 10am until services at 11am at Mt.
