Louise Shumate

Louise Shumate 69 of Elyria passed away March 16 2019 at St. John Medical Center in Westlake after a long illness.  She was born September 26 1949 in Elyria and lived in Oberlin most of her life.  Louise graduated from Oberlin High in 1968 and attended Lorain County Community College Nursing School in 1990.  She worked as a caregiver for the mentally disabled adults at Rem Ohio for many years retiring in 2007. She enjoyed spending time with family and reading The Bible.  She was baptized Jehovah's Witness in 1975.  She is survived by her daughter and caregiver Marie Gardner of Elyria, son Philip Shumate of Elyria, grandson Terrence Shumate of Columbus, granddaughters Alexandria and Kayla Gardner both of Elyria, great granddaughter Genesis Ringwalt of Elyria, great grandsons Christopher Ringwalt and Javon Oliver Jr. both of Elyria, sister Nattley (Elwood) Nelson of Lorain, brothers Eddie (Mary) Jones of Cleveland and Joseph Jones of Lorain.  She was preceded in death by her parents Eddie and Mollie Jones (nee West), son Clifford Shumate, sister Doreen Brunson (nee Jones).  Arrangements were handled by the Cowling Funeral Home and Cremation Services of Oberlin.
