Leah Burdue Cook was born in Rochester Township on April 25, 1924 and passed away Wednesday, September 30, 2020 at the age of 96. She grew up on the family farm and attended grade school in Rochester and graduated from Brighton High School in May 1942.
During WWII, she worked at Tecumseh Products in Tecumseh, Michigan. Leah worked in the office of Oberlin College food services many years, retiring from Service Systems in July 1983. She and her late husband, William, enjoyed traveling, camping and gardening. They spent their winters in Bradenton, Florida for many years. Leah and William belonged to and enjoyed square dance clubs in Ohio and Florida including the Wam Bams, Tappan Squares and West Coast Dance Club. Leah was a member of the South Amherst Methodist Church, Rochester Historical Society and AARP #395.
Leah is survived by her nephew, Dennis Burdue (Dorothy) of South Amherst; niece, Diane Burdue Mulder of Vermilion;three great-nieces; one great-nephew; four great-great-nieces and seven great-great-nephews.
Leah was preceded in death by her husband, William H. Cook, Jr. in September 2007; her parents, Mary (Phillips) Burdue in 1957 and Forrest Burdue in 1978 and one brother, Harold Burdue in 2002.
The family will receive friends Monday, October 5, 2020 from 1 p.m. until the time of the funeral service at 2 p.m. at Cowling Funeral Home, 228 South Main St., Oberlin. Pastor Mel Sayler of St. John's UCC in South Amherst, will officiate. Burial will follow at Clarksfield Methodist Cemetery, Wakeman.
