L.H. Donald Obituary

L.H. Donald 89 of Oberlin passed away on December 21 2020 at New Life Hospice in Lorain. He was born in Whitfield, Alabama on July 30 1931. L.H. came to Oberlin in 1948 at the age of 16 for better employment opportunities. He enlisted in the Army in 1952 and worked as a combat engineer. He served over one year in the Korean War and was honorably discharged in 1956. L.H. initially worked in various construction positions prior to being hired at Ford Motor Company in Lorain in 1965 where he remained until he retired in 1993. He was a member of the Local 758 laborers Union in 1948 and has been a member of the UAW Local 425 since he began working at Ford and also was their chaplin for many years. L.H. was also a member of NAACP Oberlin Branch where he received his Lifetime Membership plaque in 1997. He also was a member of the Prince Hall Free and accepted Masons of the Central Star Lodge #73. L.H. was a member of the Lorain County Urban League. He was a Deacon of Mt. Zion Baptist Church of Oberlin and a church member for many years. He enjoyd fishing, traveling, watching football and basebal but most importantly mentoring the troubled youth in our Oberlin area and Lorain County. L.H. is survived by his wife Kathy Donald of Oberlin, 1 son Kevin Donald of Avon, 1 duaghter Sheryl Donald of Albany, NY and 1 granson Chase Donald Owens also of Albany. He was preceded in death by his parents Peter and Lena (nee Graham) Donald, infant son Jeffrey Scott Donald and a brother Henry Donald. There will be a walkthrough visitation held on Monday December 28 2020 from 3-6pm at the Cowling Funeral Home of Oberlin. Masks and social distancing will be required during the walkthrough. There will be a graveside service the next day Tuesday December 29 2020 at 11am with Rev. Fred L. Bell officiating in Westwood Cemetery with full military honors conducted by Elyria Amvets Post #32.
