Gary L. Slater

Gary passed away at his home in Oberlin after a short illness.  After graduation from Oberlin High School he attended Colorado School of Mines.  During the Vietnam War he served as a medical corpsman with the US Navystationed in Guam and received the National Defense Medal upon discharge in 1968.  He then worked in the mines in Golden Colorado as a detonation specialist for the Uranium Mine.  After retiring from the mines he returned home to Oberlin to take care of his mother until her death. Gary was a big supporter of animal rescue and donations can be made to OASIS or the American Humane Society.  There will be a private family burial in Westwood Cemetery at a later date.
