Elsie Mae Rogers

Elsie Mae Rogers Brown passed away on February 18, 2015 at the Anchor Lodge 

Retirement Village Hospice in Lorain, Ohio. Elsie was born in Hollywood, 

Mississippi on September 4, 1926 to Frasier and Lucy Rogers. Elsie confessed her 

faith in our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ at a young age.  She married to Joe 

Brown and made her residence in Oberlin, Ohio. She worked for many years, until 

her retirement, at Oberlin College. Elsie possessed and was known for 

her  vibrant personality, girlish laughter and unshakeable spirit.  

   Elsie was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters, Johnella Rogers 

and Annie Bell Montgomery, and Juanita Rogers; and two brothers: Leo “Buddy” 

Rogers and Will Rogers. She leaves to cherish her memory four nieces: Lillie 

Ruth Houzah (Jericho, Arkansas), Shirley Jones (Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania), Elsie 

Mae Graham (Kansas City, Missouri) and Lisa Montgomery (Little Rock, AR); two 

nephews: John Montgomery (Chicago, IL) and Leo Montgomery (West Memphis, 

Arkansas), and a host of grand and great nieces and nephews. She was cared for 

in her waning years by beloved family friends Bob and Claudia Jones.
