David L Payne I know by all as Butch of Oberlin passed away on August 30 2023. He was born in Oberlin on July 16 1943. He worked as a crane operator for USS Steel in Lorain for 35 years retiring in 2003. He was a member of the Local Union #1104 and Butch enjoyed watching western movies, playing cards, music, having barbecue dinners, watching all sports and especially spending time with family and friends. Butch is survived by his loving wife Christeen Payne, 2 sons Philip and David Payne II, daughter Kelli Payne, 9 grandchildren, 2 sisters Hazel Moon and Dani Payne and a brother Albert Payne. He was preceded in death by his father Carl Payne, mother Frances Sutton, step father John Sutton, son Kenneth (Peanut) Bray and a brother Franklin (Sam) Payne. There will be a visitation on Wednesday September 6 2023 from 6pm to 8pm at the Cowling Funeral Home in Oberlin and on Thursday September 7 2023 at Mt. Zion Baptist Church of Oberlin at 10AM until time of services at 11AM with Rev. Fred L. Bell officiating. Burial to follow in Westwood Cemetery.
