I was shocked and saddened to hear of Charlie's passing. We had been in touch for the last year and a half after reconnecting at our reunion. I enjoyed his book recommendations and last heard from him on September 24th. I will miss hearing from him. Rest in peace dear friend.

We were all surprised and saddened to hear of Charlie's passing. A group of classmates had reconnected more than once after our last big class reunion, and Charlie was able to join us on a few occasions when he was visiting his sister in nearby Rowayton.  In addition, he shared some of his personal poetry with me, after finding out that I had taught English at our high school alma mater....he wanted and encouraged my feedback.  That was Charlie, always ready to think and rethink ideas and possibilities.  Fitting that he was bicycling at the very end--he loved riding so!  May he be riding with the angels all over God's beautiful HEAVEN!

Charlie was my therapist while I was at Oberlin - I've thought back many times since then, man, he was a great therapist! And a great person. I remember crying to him during the last week of senior year, saying, "I don't know why I'm crying" and he said "transitions are painful. just because you feel like you should be happy doesn't mean that you are. You don't know what will come next, and that's scary." The kindness and practicality in his voice made him more like a friend than any therapist I've ever seen. I'm so grateful he was there in my life, then. I am sorry for your loss.

I volunteered with Charley at PlayhouseSquare.  He was my mentor and showed me how to do the job.  I will miss our sports discussions and his kind demeanor.  He even gave me a copy of his poem December Nights by the Reservoir. My sincere condolences to the family and as for me Sunday Wheelchair Duty will never be the same.
