Linell Walker was born April 29, 1933 in Oxford, Mississippi. Her family moved to Oberlin, Ohio in 1941 where she resided until her passing on June 3, 2021. She graduated from Oberlin Senior High School in 1952. After high school she attended the Oberlin Business School of Commerce. In 1954 she married her high school sweetheart Lorenzo Walker. Jr. They had 5 children together and a lifetime of happy memories. In 1962 Linell began working at the National Association of College Stores where she worked for 36 years before retiring in 1998.
An active member of Rust United Methodist Church for 75 years, Linell served in many capacities through the years. Always concerned for her community and it’s children, she most recently acted as the church’s coordinator of the free Community Sunday Breakfast program. Her love for children was also expressed by serving as a foster mother for 23 years with Lorain County Children’s Services. She was a Past Matron of Martha Chapter #35 with the Eastern Stars.
Linell was a world traveler, ready to go anywhere! She loved hosting family picnics, garage sales, consignment shops and working in her garden. Anyone driving past her home on a warm day would see her outside ready to wave at those passing by.
Linell is survived by her children Anthony (Brenda), Wayne (Debbie), Russell (Sarah), Rose Mason all of Oberlin, Michelle Howard (Timothy) of Elk Grove, Ca. 11 grandchildren, 22 great- grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren, brothers, James Holloway (Patricia), Ralph (Sandra), sisters Pat Hodge, Ada Dixon (William), Louise Glover, Reacie Holloway and a tribe of nieces and nephews. Linell was proceeded in death by her husband Lorenzo Walker Jr., parents Fred and Luereacie Holloway, brothers Albert Holloway, David Holloway and Son-in-law Lester Mason.
Services will be Thursday June 10, 11:00 am at Rust United Methodist Church, Oberlin, Ohio.
