89 years old Betty J. Sherer, Jenkins, Scott transitioned into the arms of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, Friday, October 2, 2020 at Heritage Hospice and Palliative Care, Marietta, GA after a short stay in Sandy Springs Memory Care , Atlanta, GA
Born on September 25th, 1931 to George (Sr.) and Luella (Black) Sherer
in Dayton, Ohio, Betty was the youngest of 4 children. She graduated from Roosevelt High School, class of 1949. From there, she attended Central State University (Ohio) where she met her beloved husband of 20 years, Thomas A Jenkins Sr. to which 4 devoted children were born; Thomas A. Jenkins II (Robbie),
Kevin B. Jenkins Sr. (Norma), Janice M Sims (Walter II) and
Bridgette A. Jenkins (Kenneth Chambers, Deceased)
After 20 years of a dedicated, loving marriage, Betty became a widow after the sudden death of her husband, Thomas. She later married Robert L Scott to which she gained two additional children, Sydney L Scott and Wendolyn J Simmons.
A faithful servant of God, Betty joined Phillips Temple C.M.E church at an early age in Dayton, Ohio and continued to serve God as an active member in her church wherever she lived. She served in many auxiliaries as a member of Rust United Methodist Church, Oberlin, Ohio, Lane Tabernacle C.M.E and Union Memorial United Methodist Church, St. Louis, Missouri and Clifton United Methodist Church, Decatur, Georgia. Her greatest ministry was working in the food pantry and serving those in need.
Betty’s love for education and children was evident in her years of employment with Oberlin City School District where she was the school secretary at the elementary and middle school. After 20 years of service, she retired, May, 1988.
Betty is preceded in death by her parents, George and Luella Sherer, husbands, Thomas A Jenkins Sr. and Robert L Scott, sister Edith L. Rutledge, brother, Alexander F. Sherer, sister, Doris Sanders and daughter, Wendolyn Simmons.
Cherishing her memory, Betty leaves her brother, George Sherer Jr., 5 children, Thomas A Jenkins II, Kevin B. Jenkins Sr., Janice M Sims, Bridgette A Jenkins, Sydney L. Scott, 13 grand children, 19 great grand children and 2 great ,great, grand children and a host of nieces , nephews and devoted friends.
A woman that captivated the hearts of everyone she encountered, Betty always drew people in. The grace she displayed, the courage she had and the unconditional love she gave to every single person she met is the legacy she leaves.
