Barbara Ann Colbert

Barbara Ann Colbert (nee Childers) was born in Elyria on September 25 1948.  She was a loving and fiercely independent wife and mama bear.  Barbara was a graduate of Firelands High School in 1967 and married Bruce R. Colbert on June 24 1967.  Barbara was a homemaker and retired from Oberlin College as Administrative Assistant in 2003.  She was an excellent watercolor artist, silk painter and enjoyed cooking delicious food for the family, neighborhood kids and guests.  An art show of Barbara's watercolor works will be held August 18 thru October 12 at Kendal of Oberlin Art Gallery.  She will be deeply missed by her husband Bruce R. Colbert, sons Bruce D. Colbert (Laura Lee), Benjamin Colbert (Brandy), and Christian Colbert (Sara), grandchildren Elijah, Adin and Lily, brother David Childers,  2 sisters Joyce Daugherty and Sharon Schraeder.  She was preceded in death by her parents David and Virginia Childers, brother Jim Gutman and sister Cindy Taylor. There will be a Memorial Service on Wednesday July 19th 2023 at 11am in the Cowling Funeral Home of Oberlin.  In lieu of flowers, gifts can be made in Barbara's memory to the Firelands Association of Visual Arts scholarship program to provide access to art instruction to those otherwise not able to afford it.
