Kathy Jane Sobieski, 75, of Oberlin, passed away at home after a brief illness on Tuesday, November 13, 2018.
Kathy was born on March 9, 1943 in Oberlin, Ohio, and considered herself a lifelong resident of Oberlin.
Kathy was a 1962 graduate of Oberlin High School and attended Oberlin Business College immediately following.
Kathy was a wonderful and caring “people” person and excelled as a receptionist and secretary during her working years.
In addition to being a dedicated and loving wife and mother, she was also a great friend. Those who knew her, loved her deeply.
In her later years, Kathy became an accomplished rug hooker and won several ribbons at the Lorain County Fair. She belonged to Sacred Heart Church in Oberlin. In addition to being an active parishioner, she directed the Parish Prayer Chain.
Survivors include her four children, John “David” Sobieski (Amy) of Minnesota; Dennis Sobieski (Regina) of Wellington; Robert Sobieski (Sara) of North Carolina; and Marla Thompson (John) of Wellington; brother Michael Powers of Elyria; 13 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband John Sobieski, parents Kenneth and Pearl Powers, and brother Guy Powers.
Services will include a private graveside service. Kathy, who assisted members of her church in praying for the intentions of others, will in turn be the intention of the mass on Saturday, November 24 at 4:00 p.m. at Sacred Heart in Oberlin. Family and friends are encouraged to attend.
