Jesse Campbell Obituary

Jesse D.Campbell, 31, of Henrietta Township, died tragically on Monday, December 30, 2019, from injuries sustained in a three vehicle accident in rural Ashland County.

Jesse was born in Oberlin and graduated from Black River High School in 2007. He was employed by Verizon in Ashland and coached at Ashland Crestview High School. He was an outstanding multi-sport athlete, winning many awards in football and wrestling. His most noted accomplishments were, qualifying for the state wrestling tournament three times, making two finals appearances, including a state championship his senior year. Wrestling was his passion as he set many school records during his high school career, having some of them broken by his youngest brother, Jacob, who he coached when he returned to his alma mater in 2013 as varsity head coach. Jesse enjoyed coming home from college to watch his brother Cory play football and wrestle. Jesse wrestled at the collegiate level for Ohio State, Ashland and Tiffin Universities before having to give up competition due to health reasons.

Aside from wrestling and football, growing up Jesse was active in bowling, baseball, 4-H and steer club. Jesse was extremely close with his family. A brothers love could not have been stronger than the bond shared by the three brothers, they were best friends and confidants. They were always in contact and by each other's side no matter what. Jesse was a selfless man, and did everything in his power to help his brothers find success in sports and in life. He was a true mentor.

Jesse was a dedicated coach in football, wrestling and track & field, previously coaching at Firelands, Black River and most recently Ashland Crestview. He was a beloved coach who had a passion for creating well-rounded athletes by pushing them to achieve their goals on the field, in the classroom and most importantly in life. Spending countless hours watching film, analyzing and planning strategy for upcoming competition, Jesse would do anything to give his athlete a competitive edge. His constant drive for success was balanced out by his beautiful smile, infectious laugh, and unique sense of humor. Jesse is a Lorain County Wrestling Coaches and Officials Association Hall of Famer who coached numerous wrestlers at state and national tournaments.
