Jaqui M.R. Willis

August 14, 1946 ~ June 15, 2017 (age 70) 70 Years Old


Jaquita Mae Robinson Willis was called home to Glory on June 15, 2017. She was born on August 14, 1946 in Des Moines, Iowa to James C. Robinson & Geneva Robinson (Volineer) the oldest of four children. Jacqui as she was known went on to graduate from East High School in Des Moines and attended Tarkio University and Drake University graduating with a BS and obtaining a Masters in Library Science from Western Michigan University.

Jaqui was a lifelong educator working in Lorain, Elyria, and Strongsville City Schools as an Administrator and Media Specialist. In addition to being a devoted wife and mother she was a public servant who served on numerous committees and organizations in both Oberlin and Lorain County including, Oberlin recreation committee, Athletic boosters, Lorain County Alliance of Black School educators, Jack and Jill, Inc., Oberlin Black Alliance for Progress and Oberlin Community Services to name a few.

She was a member of Rust United Methodist Church where she was very involved serving in several capacities as an usher, communion steward, Lay Leader, Sunday school teacher and the United Methodist Women.

Jaquita was a proud, active member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority incorporated for nearly 50 years, helping to charter two chapters most notably the Lorain County Alumni Chapter. She served in many roles including president for seven years.

In her spare time she liked to read, volunteer, do crossword puzzles, line dance, sing and play cards.

She was proceeded in death by her parents and her brother James Robinson. She is survived by her husband of 45 years John P. Willis, her two children Leigh A. Willis (Aliya) of Atlanta and Geneva E.A. Willis of Oberlin, two granddaughters Khalilah Wimbly and Layla Willis; Two Brothers William C Robinson III and Thomas V Robinson as well as a plethora of loving extended family members and friends.
